DR. MICHELLE COOPER
MBChB, BSc Med Sci, DCH, DOWH, DCP, DME, MICGP
Dr. Cooper graduated in 2003, having studied Medicine at St. Andrew’s University, Scotland. After completing her internship, she specialised in Paediatrics and worked in hospitals throughout the UK and Ireland.
Dr. Cooper undertook her four-year specialist training in General Practice at U.C.C. in 2005. During this time, she gained vast experience in Emergency Care, General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr. Cooper has obtained Diplomas in Child Health, Medicine For The Elderly, Women’s Health and Psychiatry. Dr. Cooper also has Specialist Training in Surgical Skills and Contraception. She is an active member of the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Irish Medical Council.
Dr. Cooper worked at Torc Medical Practice in Killarney from 2011 to 2013. She was delighted, thereafter, to return to her hometown, opening her own Medical Practice at 17 Ashe Steet, Tralee in December 2013. Dr. Cooper currently specialises in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Cardiac Risk Prevention, Diabetes, Weight Management, Haemochromatosis, Dermatology and Minor Surgery.
DR. YPE SMIT
Dr. Smit joined our team in 2019.
Originally from The Netherlands, Dr. Smit spent much of his life abroad.
Born in the former Dutch New Guinea, he spent his childhood years in Papua New Guinea and Australia. Dr. Smit studied Medicine at the renowned Leiden University in The Netherlands. After graduating in 1985 Dr. Smit completed two years Surgical and General Practitioner Training in The Netherlands.
Dr. Smit moved to Tanzania in 1988 where he was appointed to the position of Chief Medical Officer and Medical Co-Cordinator of a 140 bed Hospital. He thoroughly enjoyed this prestigious role which he remained dedicated to until 1998.
Dr. Smit moved to Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, in 1998 where he co-founded a First Class Primary Care Centre servicing both local and expatriate communities for 20 years. Committed to providing top-class, up-to-date, evidence based medical care Dr. Smit continued to maintain his Netherlands General Practitioner Registration by keeping up to date with Postgraduate Training in The Netherlands.
Dr. Smit is registered with the Medical Council of Ireland. His areas of Specialist Interest are Dermatology, Minor Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery, Sports Medicine, Orthopedics (including Joint Injections), Ear Nose and Throat Medicine, Mental Health and Counseling.

NURSE MICHELLE CORKERY
Michelle graduated with BSc Honors Degree in General Nursing from the Institute of Technology Tralee and University Hospital Kerry in 2005.
After qualifying, Michelle worked in Australia where she developed valuable knowledge and experience in several areas of nursing, including Acute Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Medicine, Gynaecology, High Dependency Care and Neonatal Care.
Since graduation, Michelle has undertaken Specialist Training in Fertility Medicine which involved extensive training in Transvaginal and Abdominal Ultrasound, Early Pregnancy Ultrasound and Family Planning. She has also received a Post Graduate Award in Counselling and is qualified in Nurse Training, with experience working as a Nurse Tutor, delivering training modules in specialties such as Infection Control, Managing Challenging Behaviour and Health and Well-Being.
Michelle has specialised for many years in the areas of Women’s Health and Infertility Care providing key information, support and advice to couples undergoing Infertility Care and Assisted Conception (In-Vitro Fertilisation). Michelle has a keen interest in Infertility and continues to keep up to date with any new developments in this area.
Michelle is competent in delivering high quality practice based nursing care, focusing specifically on the delivery of Phlebotomy, Obstetric, Gynaecology and Immunisation Services including Cardiovascular, Diabetic and Respiratory Health Services.
Michelle is a conscientious, approachable and trustworthy nurse who offers confidential and holistic Nursing Care. She is dedicated, resourceful and professional in her approach to work at all times. Michelle is known for her friendliness, efficiency and kindness to patients. She prides herself in establishing a unique rapport with patients and their families. We are delighted to have her working with us!
NURSE GERI HEALY
Geri began her Nursing journey in 2013, graduating with a BSc Honors Degree in General Nursing from the Institute of Technology Tralee and University Hospital Kerry in 2017.
Geri has experience working in Care of the Elderly with qualifications in Elderly Care including certification in the Recognition of Elder Abuse, Falls Prevention, Dementia Care, Management and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers and Wounds, and End of Life Care.
Geri has experience in Acute Hospital Medicine, including Maternity Care, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Cardiology and General Surgery.
Geri’s special interests include Health Promotion, Preventative Medicine and Paediatrics.
Geri is diligent, thorough, caring and compassionate. She is dedicated to delivering high quality evidenced based Nursing Care. She has excellent communication skills and clinical skills which are further enhanced by her ability to bridge generational gaps.
Geri has continued her professional development with certification in numerous competencies including Tracheostomy Care, Spinal Trauma, Phlebotomy, Pain Management, National Anaphylaxis Education and Respiratory Medicine.
Geri is an enthusiastic, diligent, dedicated nurse who is committed to contributing to the professional, confidential and trustworthy ethos of Cooper MediCare and we are thrilled to have her on board.
Declan joined Cooper MediCare in 2018 and is a great addition to the practice. He is responsible for the daily operations of the practice. Together with Amanda and Catherine, Declan ensures that the practice is run efficiently and maintains the highest standards for our patients. Declan and the reception team will endeavour to help you in a prompt and professional manner. He will deal with your needs and queries with sensitivity and in total confidentiality.
With an interest in caring for people, Amanda trained and qualified with Distinction in Beauty Therapy, from the Sanctuary Beauty Academy, Tralee in 2008. She subsequently worked as Spa Receptionist at the Hotel Europe, whilst continuing her training in Beauty Therapy. From there, Amanda embarked upon a career in Beauty and Holistic Therapy at the Killarney Plaza Hotel, working as Spa Receptionist and Beauty Therapist. She was promoted to Assistant Spa Manager during her eight years at the Killarney Plaza Hotel. Amanda has since moved into the area of Healthcare and is now a valued member of our receptionist team. Amanda is kind, professional, empathetic and organised. She is a wonderful asset to our Surgery!
Catherine has many years of experience working as a Medical Secretary in Tralee. With a Diploma in Business Studies, Office Administration and Montessori Teaching; she is highly qualified, extremely efficient, caring, reliable and thorough. Catherine enjoys working with people and helping others. We are delighted to have her as part of our Administrative Team here at Cooper MediCare and we value her dearly!
